Today’s we’re staying on the iPad, and staying practical. I’m comparing Tiimo and Structured, two timeline planners that both promise the same thing: a day that feels organised, without turning planning into a second job.
I’m using one scenario, built twice, so it stays easy to follow. The scenario: a busy weekday that already has a few anchors, plus a few tasks that always try to spill into everything else. My anchors for the day:
- morning routine
- focused work
- afternoon admin block
- evening shutdown
And I’m adding four moveable tasks:
- send two important emails
- short grocery run
- a call I keep delaying
Then I’m running the same three tests in both apps focusing on:
- capture: how quickly I can get the plan in
- clarity: how well the day reads at a glance
- recovery: how well the plan survives a change
I’m not judging which app has the longest feature list. I’m simply interested in which app makes the day feel doable.
Part 1: building the day in Structured
I’m starting in Structured, with a fresh day view. I love that it’s blank and empty, and gives me the sense of a clean slate. First, I block out the anchors. I add the morning routine, focused work, admin block, then the shutdown. As I place them, I watch how the timeline looks when the day already has shape.
I love how easy it feels to add my blocks, with my tasks sitting as subtasks underneath. It makes everything feel less overwhelming, and I want to use this as a routine, so I repeat the same blocks and then adjust them each day as needed. I also love that I can add notes to my blocks, to give myself some sort of guideline for future adjustments. The time dial isn’t fun, though. It feels much faster to type in the time, than to scroll around until you land on the one you want.
Straight away, Structured gives me a clean, obvious picture of my day. I can see where I have some breathing room for more tasks. It is very subtle, though and I wish I could have more information on how much time I have between each block. That would be a tremendous help.
Now I add the moveable tasks. Two emails, groceries, and a call. I have these in my inbox, a place where I can put tasks am not sure when or where they fit into my schedule. I love that Structured lets me add how much time each task is likely to take, because it makes it so much easier to add these to the timeline. I have some free time after my break, and also my admin block. So, that’s where I’ll fit them in.
This is the moment where a planner app either helps or gets in the way. With Structured, it is an intuitive drag and drop that immediately shows you overlaps. I definitely don’t want anything overlapping. Now my inbox is free, and my day fully planned.
Part 2: building the same day in Tiimo
Now I rebuild the exact same scenario in Tiimo. Starting with the same blocks: morning routine, focused work, admin block, shutdown. I really like the AI assistant in Tiimo but it froze on me before even creating the first task. Then the app crashed. Tiimo freezes and crashes a lot, so I had to go manual. It also has a time dial, and this one is worse because it’s a repeating one. So it never stops scrolling at the start or end.
The app is also not as responsive as Structured, so I had to tap the app at least twice each time just to get a response. It gets frustrating over time. Also, adding your start and end dates takes too many steps. Tiimo failed to create my last task, no matter how much I tried, and I had to close and reopen the app. By the time which I was too tired to start over.
I love that Tiimo gives me information on the free time I have between each block, though. That way, when I need to add new tasks, I can easily do that knowing exactly how much time I have.
Next, I had to add the moveable tasks. The emails, groceries, and call. But because of how exhausted I already was, I decided to just use the random tasks already in my inbox. I love the concept of having a separate inbox, but I quickly learnt how difficult it actually is to use. First, I added them to the day.
I thought that I could then just easily drag them into the different parts of the day that I wanted them in, but that proved impossible in the app. So, I was stuck with adding start and end times. And that is a lot of work. Definitely not the smoothest workflow.
Final thoughts
Both apps managed to reach the same outcome: a full day plan. One obviously more gracefully than the other. The difference comes down to how they make that planning feel.
I thoroughly enjoyed my planning in Structured. It felt crisp and direct. Tiimo is frustratingly unresponsive. Planner apps often slow you down if they feel too “schedule first”. And you don’t get that with either app, so that’s good.
In Structured, I can add and place items quickly. It still feels like I’m making decisions as I add tasks, which helps when I want commitment, but it is a bit slow when I just want a fast brain dump. While I love the inbox feature on the side and it’s more practical, adding tasks to it isn’t as easy. Tiimo’s inbox is a better brain dump.
Structured gives the clearest “this happens, then this happens” view. Tiimo gives the clearest free time. So, as my free trial of Tiimo comes to an end, I am archiving it for a year or two.
What do you think about these two apps? Which one have you tried and which one do you prefer?
