Notability shop mini haul

How much have you bought so far from the Notability shop? I’ve collected about nine. Notability is on sale for $3.99, one-time purchase for both its iPadOS and macOS versions of the app. Notability is now a universal purchase, buy it once for both devices. The Notability developers don’t know when their sale is going to end, so if you’ve ever wanted to get Notability, now’s probably a good time to do so.

Their latest additions to the Notability shop are Essential Shapes, Washi tapes and Sticky notes for the Dash Planner. I’ve not got these because my planning approach is very minimalist, and decorations are not really my thing. If you got these, let me know if you like them. I am more excited about the Digital Notebook and Bullet Journal Starter, which they also just recently added.

Bullet Journal Starter

I was disappointed to learn that the Bullet Journal Starter is a set of stickers and not an actual journal with some page templates. Who else would have preferred different page layout templates as they show in the shop? With an option to design your own, of course.

You have a decent number of stickers to design the pages you want. After designing your pages, in the future, you can just copy & paste to save time. We love the stickers in Notability both for notes and planning. They are easier to use than the ones we get with traditional planners, where you have to use the lasso tool to get stickers from PDFs. It all feels like too much work now, against the set-up we get in Notability. You can add multiple stickers and rearrange them much faster. It’s a smoother workflow, and we hope other apps can adopt this.

The guidelines in the app make it easier to align your stickers on the page. They look better when aligned, at least that’s what I prefer. The awesome thing about a digital bullet journal is that you won’t have to design your pages multiple times if you want to use your own style. Here is a question for everyone enthusiastic about bullet journaling: are these stickers enough to get started with bullet journaling? Let us know. They have stickers for:

  • Days of the week
  • Some sections
  • Dates of the month
  • Heading ribbons
  • Checklist stickers
  • Schedule stickers

Digital Notebook

We also have a Digital Notebook in the app. You can decide the size of your notebook based on the size of your device, which is impressive. The first page is a cover, where you write your name and subject. The next page is the notebook’s index. The notebook has 12 sections. Index notebooks are a great way to organise your notes. If you have plenty of notes in a notebook, they help you skip to different sections without scrolling through each page in the notebook.

Notability can’t create hyperlinks, so we get hyperlinked notebooks instead. This allows you to have, say all your topics for one subject, in one notebook. It essentially gives you another layer of organisation for your notes.

Without Indexed Notebook

  • Divider (first year)
    • Subject (Anatomy)
      • Topic one
      • Topic two
      • Topic three

With Indexed Notebook

  • Divider (Med school)
    • Subject (First year)
      • Indexed notebook (all Anatomy topics)
      • Histology

This indexed notebook has a lot of page templates despite having just 12 sections. You can use it for almost anything you want. It has thirty-five page templates. You can duplicate the page templates as many times as you like. Notability duplicates the pages with active hyperlinks to the other pages in the notebook. This means you can quickly navigate through your notes from any page, even duplicates. Adding pages between sections of your notebook also doesn’t disrupt your hyperlinks.

Stickers

Lastly, I have the following stickers from the Notability shop:

  • Stem 1.0
  • Winter Essentials
  • Back to School Basics
  • Everyday 50

These stickers are not associated with planners or journals. They look cartoonish; certainly an acquired taste. Not everyone can appreciate them. They are probably targeting students, but I am not sure high school students will like them. Let’s hope they can bring in more players into their store to add a bit of variety to their sticker collection. We look forward to that.
