LiquidText version 4 updates

LiquidText Version 4 Updates

The lag that has plagued LiquidText for years is finally gone. The app is loading and responding fast, which is exciting. We hope this is not a transient change because that would just be disappointing.

LiquidText 4.0.6

LiquidText 4.0.6 came in September 2020 and it introduced some interesting new features. Type to Navigate lets you type a page number, document name or search term and LiquidText displays navigation options to:

  • Search document for…
  • Search all docs in the project for…
  • Search workspace for…

Your search results are organised into:

  • Page Navigation
  • Table of contents (if your document has one)
  • Document titles (depending on what you’re searching).

For a faster navigation feature, its location is not ideal because you have to bring up the DocPane to access it. It would be better if our developers could move it to the top toolbar so we can use it with a single tap. LiquidText can now search your documents in seconds, which is impressive for an app that used to lag and crash often.

Your text extractions, if highlighted, will now have the same colour as their highlighter. They also added a setting to make your extractions colours be on the Edge Bar only or the Entire Excerpt. This gives us more options on how our excerpts look in the application.

We can now select text and start typing to add a tag or create a comment. This feature works with the Magic keyboard; it should work with any Bluetooth keyboard. You can also create new tags and even select excerpts on your canvas to comment on them or tag them. This is surely a faster way to add important information you might have missed out.

LiquidText 4.1.0

4.1.0 was released a few days ago with more exciting updates. You can now scan documents into LiquidText using the iPadOS 14 scanning engine. You can scan a document from the:

  • Homepage
  • Workspace
  • Widget they added in this update.

We’ve known for some time that scanning documents with the iPadOS technology creates big files, but we never imagined it would be to this extent. The four pages we scanned in the app created a 38,5 MB document in LiquidText but a 6.1 MB one in Scanner Pro (with an option to make it even smaller). At the moment, it’s better to use a scanning app than scan documents into an app using the scanning feature in iPadOS. Let’s hope our developers can find a way to decrease the size of scanned files in LiquidText.

Most of your features in the app work like they do on other non-scanned PDFs. The highlighter seems to soak into the scan, which is impressive and pretty. You can even use the Highlight View to pinch your highlights closer together for your scanned PDFs. However, at the moment, we can’t search through our documents. Let’s hope our developers are working on OCR for the app, it’ll be a game changer, as it always is.

LiquidText has added a widget (with two different sizes) to scan documents into the app from our iPads’ home screens. It doesn’t get more efficient than this!

We love the fact that the app doesn’t lag or crash anymore. We pray this is actually a permanent bug fix. This would mean the app is usable and we can request more features from our developers. Head over to our YouTube community page and let’s collect our 2021 wish list for LiquidText
